What is ActivClient?
ActivClient is middleware software designed by ActivIdentity to allow your smart card and smart card reader to successfully and securely communicate with your government account. Most smart cards require middleware like ActivClient to use properly—just having a smart card reader isn’t enough. Using ActivClient with your government smart card will allow you to meet CIJIS and other government mandates and prevent any leaks of important government data.
Who makes ActivClient?
ActivClient was created by ActivIdentity, which is now part of HID Global. compITstore has licenses to sell ActivClient 6.2, ActivClient Linux 6.2 and ActivClient 7.0. Currently, compITstore is the only distributor of ActivClient 7.0.
Who needs ActivClient?
Recently, many government organizations have put in place mandates for increased security procedures. Smart card usage might not have been as widespread in the past, but the amount of people using smart cards is increasing by the day. If you are in any branch of the military or a member of the Department of Defense, you need ActivClient. The same holds true for many police, firemen and coast guard. Even state, city and local municipality officials have begun using smart cards and if you want to properly use your smart card, then you need to be using ActivClient. If you are not sure if your office or department has been mandated to adopt increased security measures, then ask your supervisor immediately.
Will ActivClient 7.0 work on my computer?
ActivClient 7.0 is currently only compatible with Windows 7 64-bit operating systems. To find out your operating system, head to my computer and click on system properties. Under system, it will list the system type. If you do not have Window 7 64-bit, ActivClient 6.2 is compatible with multiple versions of Windows.
I need ActivClient right away. How long will it take to ship?
compITstore provides digital download of ActivClient, which means that you will not have to wait for your product to ship. Instead, you simply need to head to your e-mail inbox to retrieve your order.
How hard is it to install ActivClient on my computer?
Not hard at all. First, you have to retrieve and download the software from your e-mail inbox. Then you locate the file and right-click to unzip. Double-click on the unzipped file and follow the on-screen download instructions. It should only take a few moments to install. Once installed, ActivClient will detect your smart card reader automatically. Now you’re all set!
If I have a smart card reader, why do I need ActivClient?
In order to securely communicate with your government account, you need your government-issue smart card, a smart card reader and middleware such as ActivClient. If you just have your smart card inserted into a reader plugged into your computer, then you aren’t going to get anywhere. With ActivClient installed on your computer, you will be able to validate that it is in fact you trying to access your account and will be able to prevent leaks.
What does a smart card reader do?
By inserting your PIV, CAC or other ID 1 card into the reader, the reader is able to access the information on the token on the front of the card. When accompanied with ActivClient, the card reader will be able to verify your credentials for accessing the account and grant you safe access to the government network. A smart card reader is a must have if you are planning on working remotely. It is also most likely that if you are a government employee, then you will be required to meet security mandates that include the use of a smart card reader.
How can you sell your products so low? I’ve seen them for twice the amount on other sites.
